OMG, ya'll! Miss Teen South Carolina explains why Americans can't find their own country on a map

"I personally believe that U.S. Americans are unable to [find the U.S. on a map], because, uh, some...people out there in our nation don't have maps."

- Miss Teen South Carolina, Lauren Caitlin Upton (shown below)

See what else she had to say: Lauren explains all

Or, like many Americans (with or without maps) who're actually proud that they haven't read a book since high school, don't bother reading the transcript -- just catch the clip right here, if you haven't already seen it:

In all fairness to Lauren, pageants aren't, as such, a notable flocking point for rocket scientists in bikinis and heels, or anything. Also, this blog post is a sensible defense of her unfortunate response to a (dumb) question.

Yeah, yeah, yeah...

But still.

Lauren was later interviewed on the Today show, and had a chance to redeem herself, telling the studio audience: "I would love to re-answer that question. Well personally, my friends and I, we know exactly where the United States is on our map."

On the other hand, Lauren reportedly later signed a modeling contract with loudmouth real estate mogul Donald Trump's agency in New York City, and modeling assignments could earn her up to $30,000 per day.

See, 'cause she might be dumb -- but she ain't stupid.
